Shane Cassells Meath West candidate
At the January meeting of the Navan Municipal District meeting I raised the issue of the lack of broadband for Athlumney Wood due to the fact that the cabinet at the entrance had not yet been enabled.
Today I received the following response from Eir in respect of this issue and I hope that this will see this positively resolved.
“Dear councillor,
A number of issues regarding a Wayleave had to be resolved before permission to proceed could be granted. These issues have now been resolved and Eir’s contractor, KNN, should have the written permission required later this week. Once permission is received, work to erect the Fibre Cabinet will commence, expected to be next week.
All Works, ESB connection, Connecting Fibre cable, Copper Cables and testing should be completed within 3 to 4 weeks.
Fibre powered Broadband should therefore be available in this area by Mid-March
Still do not have fast internet in the Estate, any new information?
Unfortunately we haven’t got any official updates on broadband so far. They are doing something at the front, but who knows how long it will take.
Thank you very much
Still no fibre as of yet. Checked the eir website and it says it will be at least a year before the area will be upgraded to fibre.
On eir website the same info is for a while now.
I can’t be waiting and waiting. I think I’m just going to have to move to an area with decent coverage already provided. Obviously that email to the councillor is bogus and the dates specified in the letter are provisional and estimates. I was going to set up a new business from home but that will have to wait until I move to a new address but at least the house prices are rising again and the house is close to being out of negative equity. So at least that’s one positive.
Residents Association has nothing to do with it. We just shared the provided info to us.
